This study was performed to investigate whether chiropractors' workstation table height or the tasks they perform make them susceptible to low back strain. Seven chiropractors manipulated three spinal areas of a subject patient at three different workstation heights. Data was evaluated using the LMM and 3DSSPP. Results demonstrated that significant differences were found for MSF, DCF and Lig strain as workstation table height was varied. Significant differences were found for ARV, MSF, DCF and Lig strain as various tasks were performed. The thoracic task was found to be the least straining. There was no significant interaction between table height and task performed. Having tables adjusted to the least straining height reduced the amount of sagittal flexion on average by over 25% for all tasks. There was not one specific table height acceptable for all typical tasks performed by chiropractors. Therefore it is recommended that adjustable height tables be used in practice rather than fixed height tables.
