The problem of fusing decisions transmittedrnover fading and noisy channels in a wirelessrnsensor network is revisited. In a previous work, startingrnwith the assumption of perfect channel knowledge,rnan optimal likelihood ratio (LR) based fusion rulernwas developed along with three suboptimum statistics.rnIn this paper, we present a new LR based fusionrnrule which requires only the knowledge of channelrnfading statistics instead of the actual channel coefficients.rnWe show that the equal gain combiner (EGC)rnand the Chair-Varshney fusion rules are approximationsrnof this new rule at low and high channel SNRrnvalues, respectively. This new fusion rule has betterrnperformance than Chair-Varshney and EGC fusionrnrules, outperforms the maximum ratio combinerrn(MRC) at most practical channel SNR values, and isrnonly slightly worse than the optimal LR based fusionrnrule.
