The capacity potential of MIMO fading channels employing large antenna arrays relies heavily on the channel model, with the canonical rich scattering model conventionally used. This paper presents a physical channel model, including transmit and receive antenna polarization, and compares it to the rich scattering model. We examine power variations across and correlations between antenna elements for the physical model and how these channel characteristics impact capacity.
