This paper presents some analytical results on the capacity ofrnmultiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) fading channels and in thernpresence of co-channel interference with arbitrary average powersrnand additive noise. We consider the case when the desired userrnand co-channel interferers are all subject to Rayleigh type of fadingrnand derive (i) the exact moment generating function of the isolatedrnlink capacity when the transmitter has no channel state informationrn(CSI) and (ii) the exact outage probability, or the cumulative distributionrnfunction (CDF) of the output signal-to-interference-plus-noisernratio (SINR), and outage capacity when the system employs optimumrncombining (i.e., beamforming). We then derive from (i) the capacityrnmean, variance and the Gaussian-approximated outage capacity.rnThese results show that (i) even a few of not-so-strong co-channel interferersrnwill signiu0002cantly degrade the system performance predictedrnwithout considering the co-channel interferers and (ii) the optimumrncombining scheme outperforms the equal power allocation schemernin terms of the channel capacity when the transmitting SNR is lowrnbut the equal power allocation scheme eventually becomes the betterrnwhen the SNR increases.
