Thermal decomposition of carbonyl iron filled composites was studied in order torninvestigate the influence of functional filler on the heat resistance of polymer matrixes.rnPolyorganosiloxane composites containing 10 and 50 vol.%of carbonyl iron powdersrndiffer in elemental composition,morphology,microstructure,and surface modificationrnwere prepared.Thermal stability of composites and pure matrix was analysed underrninert atmosphere up to 1200 °C.rnPolyorganosiloxane matrix degrades in two steps,where the first step degradationrnmechanism is cyclooligomerization,and the second step is connected with tworncompeting processes of cyclooligomerization and crosslinking degradation.Similarrnshape of curves can be observed for all 10 vol.%composites,while for 50 vol.%rncomposites a dramatic enhancement of the stabilizing effect is observed,except forrncomposites filled with particles coated by SiO2.Composites containing carbonyl ironrncoated by SiO2 exhibit accelerated first step of depolymerization most likely due tornwater and hydroxyl groups absorbed on SiO2.Nevertheless,the disappearance of thernsecond stage of degradation testifies for hindrance of unzipping reaction with mostrnlikely forced crosslinking reactions between polysiloxane chains and SiO2 coating onrnthe filler surface.
