The Kepler Program has embarked on a mission torndetect terrestrial planets. A sensitive space-bornernphotometer is used to continuously and simultaneouslyrnmonitor the brightness of a pre-determined set of stars.rnReaction wheels are used to maintain constant, accuraternpointing at the stars, and a reaction control systemrn(RCS) is used to periodically de-saturate the reactionrnwheels. Because of the precise light detectionrnrequirements, it is essential to the success of the missionrnthat the photometer optics remain contamination-free. Inrnorder to determine whether hydrazine propellant is anrnappropriate candidate for the Kepler RCS system, arnDirect Simulation Monte Carlo analysis is performed tornassess the potential for contamination of the Keplerrnphotometer by hydrazine exhaust products, includingrnunreacted hydrazine. The analysis concludes that therernare no detrimental contamination effects on the Keplerrnphotometer.
