The study looked at the effect of suturing in tendon repair. The focus of the study was to assess the biomechanical effects on a sutured tendon under tensile loading.rnThe experimental tests showed that the tendon specimens failed in the sutured region due to cutting by the suture. The numerical modelling showed high stresses at the interface between the suture and tendon. The stress level reaches 100 MPa at the sutured junction under the linear elastic assumption.rnFurther non-linear analyses and failure mechanisms are needed to achieve a complete understanding on the sutured tendon response under tensile loading.
