Introduction Climate change is a subject of global environmental concern.Global temperature increase is caused by increased anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions over the last 100 to 200 years.Methane is one of major anthropogenic greenhouse gases (Hopkins and Lobley,2009).It is estimated that methane production by ruminant animanls worldwide is about 15% of total atmospheric methane emissions (Moss,1993).Methane production in vitro was suppressed with addition of coconut,canola,or cod liver oil (Dong et al.,1997),and addition of oleic,linoleic,and linolenic acids to diets of sheep (Czerkawski et al.,1966).Use of oilseeds in lactating cattle diets to supply unsaturated fatty acids could potentially provide a hydrogen sink,directly inhibit specific ruminal mathanogens,or reduce fiber digestion and lower mathane emissions (Dong et al.,1997).Ambient temperatures have a considerable influence on farm animals,causing changes in nutrient metabolism (Fuquay,1981).
