The automobile is subjected to extremely high dynamic load conditions. Modern lightweigth structure standards cause high stresses. Sufficient operating strength can only be verified if the specific design and dimension criteria are taken into account on the one hand, and if a reliable Structural Health Monitoring Process is available on the other. This Structural Health Monitoring Process should consist of health monitoring during production, testing and vehicle operation. BMW's process is introduced and discussed.
