These paper presents an analysis of the AC demagnetisation and remagnetisation processes. Measurements have been made in a range of magnetic recording media including acicular particulate flexible media, Ba-ferrite coatings and thin films. In all cases an offset of the AC remagnetisation peak relative to that expected from DC measurements was observed, which could be to higher or lower fields. This can not be explained in terms of expected trends from time dependence or static interaction effects and we produced a number of simulations using a phenomenological (Preisach) model and a physical (Landau-Lifshitz) model to investigate the mentioned behaviour.
