A conjugate detached-eddy rotor/stator interaction simulation of a single-stage, film-cooled high-pressure turbine mid-span section is presented. In regions where the local grid spacing is less than the turbulent mixing length, the detached-eddy turbulence model of Bush and Mani is used to predict the turbulent viscosity. Outside of those regions, the Wilcox two-equation k-ω turbulence model is used. Time-averaged and instantaneous results from the detached-eddy simulation (DES) are compared to results from a similar unsteady, film-cooled Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) simulation, a detached-eddy uncooled, adiabatic wall simulation, as well as experimental data. The numerical techniques used in the procedure are described along with details of the turbine stage flow and thermal fields.
