This paper looks at the future of the National Airspace System (NAS) Weather System. Architecture which is a subset of the NAS Architecture. In building the NAS Architecture, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) needed to first define the ultimate goal, which is to desxign the NAS for the era of "Free Flight", Free Flight is defined as a safe and freedom to select their path and speed in real time. Air traffic restrictions are only imposed to ensure safety of flgith, to preclude exceeding airport capacity, to ensure separation, and to prevent unauthorized flight through Special Use Airspace. Restrictions are limited in extent and duration to correct any problems.
