A new air traffic control tower simulator, the Surface Development and Test Facility (SDTF) is under construction at the NASA and NASA, the SDTF was conceived by leaders within the two agencies out of the realization that the goal to improve the efficiency of the National Air Space (NASA) must include the airport surface as well as airborne portions of the system. NASA's goals to improve safety, efficiency and affordability in civation are being directly pursued by facilities such as the SDTF which provide a platform for research and development of new concept and technologies for the airport environment.
