Recycling and repurposing wind turbine blade material, i.e., mixture of glass fiber, wood material and thermoset resins, is both an economic and environmental necessity. A series of particleboard composites were fabricated using recycled wind turbine material and MDI resin. The recycled material was first comminuted via a hammer-mill through a range of screens (1/2”, 1/4”, and 1/8”). The influence of three factors (particle size, moisture content (MC) as well as resin content) on the properties of final composites were evaluated. Static bending and thickness swelling were characterized according to ASTM D 1037-12. Superior mechanical and physical properties were obtained for all composites panels. Furthermore, mechanical properties rise up as the amounts of resin content, MC and particle size increase. The current investigation demonstrates that it is feasible and promising to recycle the wind turbine blade to fabricate high-performance particleboard.
