In this paper a brief development history of vehiclernnavigation system is reviewed and the research status quo isrnintroduced according to the four functional subsystems of the modernrnvehicle automatic navigation systems. The research and application ofrnvehicle navigation system in China are discussed and its applicationrnprospect is analyzed from the point of view of the applying value andrnmarket potential. On the basis of evaluating the research status quo,rnthis paper indicates the existing problems in the present research,rnthe key technology which needs to be solved and some aspectsrndesiderating to be studied further. Furthermore, some research clewsrnand solutions to the above problems are provided.
