In this paper,thermodynamics behavior of vanadium in the chlorination process of vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite is investigated for discussing the mechanisms of vanadium extraction by selective chlorination.It is found that it is possible to extract vanadium from vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite by selective chlorination when chlorine potential (logpcl2) and oxygen potential (logpo2) are controlled at a certain region; Theoretically vanadium in the ore can be extracted in the gas form of vanadium trichloride oxide (VOCl3) over the temperature range of 900-1300K whereas FeOx and TiOx still remain in the ore; FeC13 is suitable to be used as chlorinating agent in this study but FeC12 is not;The stable region of VOC13 will shrink gradually with the chlorination temperature rising and enlarge with the decrease of its partial pressure.
