Influence of Different Entry Nozzle on Flow Patterns in the CSP Mold

Physical simulation is an effective means to study the flow patterns in the mold for the continuous casting. For the quick development of thin slab casting in China, the flow patterns in the mold for thin slab continuous casting are studied by PIV when three different submerged entry nozzles are used. The results show that the structure of SEN influence the flow pattern in the mold in a great degree. The outlet angle of SEN is the main factor for the angle of the flow and strongly influences the flow pattern in the mold. At the condition of constant outlet area, the thickness of outlet is the important factor for the velocity distribution of the flow. For the thicker outlet and larger outlet angle of the III nozzle, a structure with one main flow and two counterflow is formed and appropriate surface velocity, vortex center position and impact on narrow side are present in the flow field of III nozzle, which is better than that of two other nozzles.
