Wind-induced vibrations are a challenging problem in the design of slender structures. The main excitation mechanisms are buffeting excitation, vortex shedding and drag and lift instabilities. This paper deals with two special mechanisms of these generic excitations. The authors report, on the one hand, on the excitation of high and slender structures, like guyed masts, towers and chimneys, induced by the lateral turbulence of the gusty wind and, on the other hand, on vibrations induced by simultaneous action of rain and wind, the so-called rain-wind vibrations of cables and hangers of bridges.
