In 1444, Johannes Gutenberg developed the first practical printing press. One of the key elements, was a large screw to apply pressure to the plates. In the 1860's the Wyatt Brothers developed the first practical method to mass produce screws using a head and roll process. From then to now, screws have engaged threads that have been pre-formed in the material. A totally new thread configuration "THE HIGH TORQUE SYSTEM", has been recently developed and it's thread configuration captures the outside of the material in a pre-formed helix in the base material. This paper will explore how this new configuration solves the problems for thin sheet metal applications and eliminates the need for secondary operations.
