The increasing number of channels in DWDM systems has led to the need for connection with a large number of optical fibers in the systems' racks. Optical connectors are required that can realize this multi-fiber connection with high density, good performance and reliability. To meet these requirements, we developed a 16-fiber fiber physical contact (FPC) connector with a push-pull coupling mechanism, a shutter and a structure that allows fibers to be changed. The developed FPC connector makes it possible to connect 128 fibers in a 100 mm wide area. We confirmed the good performance of the developed connector.
