摘要

Standard and flame retarded thermoplastic polyurethanes are used for cable jacketing due to their abrasion resistance and good performance at low temperatures. The market uses both halogenated and non halogenated flame retarded systems with the most common applications having a hardness of 85 shore A. In this paper we briefly review physical, chemical and electric properties of standard thermoplastic polyurethanes and introduce novel thermoplastic polyurethanes to this market. These innovations are step out technologies involving soft elastic polyether based polyurethanes with a hardness of less than 70A , higher heat resistant polyurethanes that have a hardness of 85 to 90 shore A, polyurethanes that have anti-staining properties. We include both aromatic and aliphatic base polyurethanes in this paper. Included in this paper is a brief discussion on a commercial application developed jointly with Corning Cable Systems LLC.
