We found the effective concept for reducing fiber strain in high fiber count SZ slotted core cable. This strain reduction is highly effective for solving the conflict between transmission property and slot space reduction. Using this new concept, we could reduce the cable diameter of 640-fiber SZ slotted core cable. The diameter of the new cable is 18 % smaller than that of the current cable. In this examination, we used high resolution BOTDA instrument for the fiber strain analysis. The spatial resolution of this instrument is 10 cm, so it enabled us to evaluate the strain distribution in the SZ slotted core cable along the line of slot trajectory.
