This paper proposes an ultra-high-density optical fiber cable that uses 0.25 mm diameter mono-coated optical fibers with a low bending loss. This cable has great advantages in terms of cable weight and diameter and will be easy to install in a small space in underground ducts and on residential and business premises. Optical fiber with the optimum low bending loss is selected experimentally to obtain optical fiber cable with the maximum fiber density. A 100-fiber cable was obtained with a fiber density of 3 fibers/mm and a cable diameter of 6 mm. The transmission, mechanical and midspan access characteristics of the cable and the fiber jointing characteristics were confirmed to be excellent.
