It is important to locate the defects within tested object in X-ray radiography with the development and improvement of Nondestructive test(NDT) and image processing technology. Because the obtained image is 2-D, the depth of defects can not be known for any specimen in radiography, especially for the objects of complicated forms. How to find the position of defects is the aim of the paper. A rotating method is presented to locate defects in the paper. In experiment, first, the specimen is fixed on a rotation mechanism with high precision, then to acquire a radiographic image in one position. By rotating the specimen with a known degree, the second image is acquired. The 3-D information of defects can be deduced through the two images and experiment condition. The formula and its deduction are given in the paper. According to the process of imaging for locating defects, the specimen made by wood is designed, in which the defects are set. It is shown that the results of locating defects are satisfied by experiment.
