The test environment for LBL5 web caching cooperation is designed to verify the LBL5 scheme. The key to set up this testing environment is to implement LBL5 switch. There are two main functions of LBL5. One is to intercept HTTP requests to do TCP spoofing. Another is to support extended ICP to get cache digest, cache server workload and round trip time (RTT) between LBL5 and cache server. To implement the former, we make use of IPTables. Doing so we can avoid to modifying Linux kernel. To implement the later we write a socket program to communicate with cache servers to get desired data. Client machines run Duke Proxycizer to generate HTTP requests. Cache servers run Squid. Although this testing environment is designed for testing LBL5 web caching scheme, it can also be used in testing other web caching cooperative schemes and single web caching server schemes, because it provides sufficient statistic data for evaluating their performance.
