The effect of a conventional single wire probe on the formation and development of laminar separation bubbles was examined. Tests were conducted on a low Reynolds number airfoil at three chord Reynolds numbers of 100,000,150,000, and 200,000 over a wide range of angles of attack. Measurements for surface pressure and oil film interferometry (OFI) were made. The probe had negligible effects on the pressure distribution upstream of the probe, while downstream transition was promoted. At low angles of attack, the probe had negligible effects on the overall pressure distribution. OFI analysis was able to identify separation and reattachment locations of the separation bubbles to better accuracy than from the pressure distribution.
