A technique for mass culturing three entomogenous fungi, namely a white grub isolate of Beauueria brongniartii (Sacc.) Petch, root borer isolate of Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo-Criv.) Vuill. and white grub isolate of Metarhizium anisopliae Metch on molasses yeast media was developed. Based on growth parameters, particularly spore production, molasses at 3% concentration was found to be suitable for mass culturing the three fungi. The optimum quantity of molasses broth in 1 liter polyvinyl containers was found to be 300 ml. In different multiple harvest regimes without replacement of media and re-inoculation of the fungus, highest spore production was obtained when two harvests, each with a 20 day incubation period, were made. Sulphur added to molasses media as a wettable form and CaSO_4, at the concentration contained in press-mud used as carrier material, did not affect growth parameters of the three fungi. Molasses broth media was less expensive than the standard media for culturing B. brongniartii. A formulation of the fungus cultured on molasses yeast broth was prepared using press-mud and lignite as carrier material. In a laboratory bioassay, press-mud formulation caused higher mortality of third instar grub than lignite formulation.
