Blasts, whether deliberate or accidental, are a fact of modern societies. This is a great concern for a societies critical infrastructure as well as expeditionary military instillations. Improvement to existing construction methods that can enhance blast resilience could ultimately save lives and/or property. Concrete Filled FRP Tubes (CFFTs) have been shown to be an improvement over conventional reinforced concrete members for traditional loads. The tube provides additional strength and confines the concrete protecting it from damage and crushing. This study examines whether these improvements against traditional loads extend to blast loading. The study carried out including the testing of six CFFT RC column specimens under blast loading. The specimens were tested in pairs, a CFFT and a control, to facilitate the comparison. The CFFT specimens performed significantly better than the regularly reinforced specimens showing greater robustness with decreased localized damage and reduced permanent deflections. It is clear that CFFTs offer enhanced column robustness against blast loads when compared to similar traditional RC columns.
