Rapid progress in developing Nanocomposites has been made in the last decade. This study is an introduction to use the nano technology in the manufacturing of filament-winded glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) tubes, following easy and practical techniques during mixing and curing. Three percentages of Cloisite montmorillonite organoclay (Cloisite 10A) nanoparticles, namely 2%, 4% and 6% of resin mass, were added to vinyl ester resin during manufacturing of three corresponding square GFRP tubes. Then the tubes were filled with normal weight concrete and tested under concentric axial loading as short columns. The stress-strain relationship in addition to the failure pattern of the columns were recorded and compared with a reference concrete-filled GFRP square tube column with plain vinyl ester resin. Moreover, the results were compared with an unconfined plain concrete column having the same dimensions. The effect on maximum strength of the FRP composite columns by adding Cloisite 10A to the thermosetting resin was not evident and needs more investigations, particularly regarding the mixing and curing process of the resin.
