摘要

The structural design of silos is much influenced by the wall pressures which occur, and any source of increased wall pressures can be important. One of the factors causing departures of the pressure distribution from the Janssen reference line is variations in the wall friction coefficient. This paper examines the effect of local variations in wall friction under both symmetric and unsymmetrical conditions and gives an insight into its effects. It is shown that locally reduced wall friction can give rise to significantly increased pressures, but that the magnitude of these pressures is sensitive to the geometry of the silo and the vertical extent of the polished zone. The most important implications are for tall silos with local polished /ones causing unsymmetrical pressures.
