To achieve a low-velocity slug-flow pneumatic conveying, the air velocity along the conveying pipeline should be controlled within a specified range. This paper presents a new test-design procedure for such purpose, where a simple and specific test rig was designed and tested. Combined with the theoretical correlations developed to determine the pressure drop and slug velocity, the procedure presented in this paper can be applied to the bulk solid materials with regular, irregular and/or unusual physical properties, as long as they are good candidates for this mode of pneumatic conveying.
