Queensland Cement Limited's new 1.6 mtpa clinker kiln line at Gladstone is the largest ever constructed in Australia and currently the second largest kiln in the Holderbank group worldwide. The $200 million facility commenced operation in December 1997 and represents the very latest cement industry technology. The mine site at East End and the kiln site at Fishermans Landing are linked by rail and both sites feature extensive materials handling and storage. This paper describes some of the design features of these highly automated facilities.
