The egg yolk of immunized chicken is a rich and inexpensive source of specific polyclonal antibodies. It has been shown that the amount of purified yolk immunoglobulin (IgY) produced in one month is 18 times higher than that of IgG produced in rabbit. Because of its many advantages, IgY has been wildly used in lots of the life fields. In this paper we show that Toxoplasma gondii antigen is effective to induce an immune response. ELISA revealed that specific antibodies appeared 1 month after immunication, and remained high until at least 100 days, and the ELISA titer was higher than 1x10~-8. A total amount of 5g immunoglobulin was extracted from 90 eggs of one immunized hen. For getting a high production of the IgY, we used the water dilution method to purify the IgY from egg yolks. It was shown that the high production of toxoplasma IgY could be got from eggs laid by immunized hens and would be useful in the development of diagnosis kit for toxoplamosis.
