Coal-derived liquids were hydrodenitrogenated over a presulfided Ni-W/Al_2O_3 catalyst by using a continuous fixed bed reactor. Heavy components, probably formed during the storage, should be separated before the hydotreatment because it caused a rapid deactivation of the catalyst. The nitrogen content of 5600ppm in a feedstock would be reduced to 10ppm at LHSV=1 or to 100ppm at LHSV=2 under H_2 12MPa for more than one year.
