摘要

Organic acids are increasingly used for various industrial applications. Their production is mainly achieved by fermentation and traditionally involve precipitation or extraction operations which generate huge amount of effluents. To lower this environmental impact, a process targeted around electromembrane operations was investigated. This process involves conventional and bipolar membrane electrodialysis steps for the concentration and the conversion of the organic acid salt respectively. Both operations are investigated with lactic acid as case study using the same methodology, which is based on the coupling of a theoretical and an experimental approach. In this manner, design tools are obtained thanks to which both product and effluent lines can be characterised so that the advantages of introducing such operations in the organic acid production processes can be evaluated.
