Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been widely explored for the applications of Li-ion batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells, and solar cells for sustainable energy conversion and storage. Recently, it is demonstrated that CNTs exhibit excellent mechanical strength and have the capability of producing large deformation without structural failure. They are therefore considered as potential materials for constructing miniaturized nanoscale mechanical energy conversion and storage device. Here, we reported that highly agglomerated carbon nanotubes can be repeatedly compacted to achieve large volume reduction (>50%) and expanded to nearly original volume without structural failure, like a robust porous cushion.
