The region of Brittany in western France is constituted of four departments with altogether 4.3 million inhabitants and an electricity consumption of about 22 TWh in 2010. This means about 26% of the total final energy consumption. Brittany is one of the regions in France that is up to 90% dependant on energy importation from neighbouring regions although its potential in biomass (agriculture and agro alimentary), wind power, photovoltaic and hydroelectric power is enormous. However, the local production of electricity is poor, as shown on the diagram on the right.
