Like all electrical equipment and consumerrnproducts energy storage systems must meet thernrequirements of the applicable laws of thernmarkets in which they are put into operation. Forrnmost of the storage systems there is no productrnstandard. It is the responsibility of thernmanufacturer to consider the legal requirementsrnand define and fulfill the safety requirements forrnthe product. Starting from the basic design of anrnenergy storage device this paper gives anrnoverview of existing mandatory and technicalrnspecifications and standards and their applicationrnto the known storage technologies.
