摘要

This paper empirically investigates and compares efficiency, productivity, and shadow prices of pollution in the manufacturing sectors of Korea and China, with and without considering environmental pollution. The results show that efficiency and productivity in the Korean manufacturing sector are less competitive than those of China. However, if pollutant abatement activities are regarded as part of economic activities, Korea shows higher growth in productivity than China. The shadow prices of pollution show that, since China is an early stage in environmental regulation, the control doesn't affect productivity. In the near future, however, if environmental regulation in China is strengthened, it is expected that the difference between Korea and China in productivity will be disappeared.
