A framework panel was developed on a model scale using four curved LVL's as the frame members. A series of experiments was carried put for evaluating the shear performance of the framework panel as well as the performance of the curved LVL. First, the performance of the curved LVL was evaluated by measuring its resistance against angular deformation. The resistance in the closing direction was bigger than that of the opening direction. When the outside frame was attached, the performance in both the closing and the opening directions were improved. Next, the framework panels, composed of four curved LVL's (O panel), were subjected to shear loads for evaluating their rigidity. Then, various kinds of framework panels, based on the O panel, were assembled and subjected to shear loads to evaluate their shear rigidity. The shear rigidity of the FO panel, in which the O panel was inserted in the outside frame (F panel) and connected with bolts and nuts, was two-thirds of the rigidity of the panel with a bracing member (BC panel). When pieces of plywood were nailed on both the upper and the lower portions of the FO panel, the panel (PPO panel) showed almost equal values of shear wall resistance as the BC panel. This shows the framework panel composed of curved LVL's has a great potential as a load-bearing wall panel with an open space in the center, with equal or higher shear rigidity than the originally braced panel (BC panel).
