摘要

A fracture mechanical model developed by Van de Put, is presented to explain the induced splitting strength by connections. Comparison is also made with a fracture model of Larsen & and Gustafsson in evaluating tests from various sources. The Van de Put model appears to fit the test results best. This model assumes that shear is the governing failure mode and not tension perpendicular to grain failure. This model is incorporated in the final draft of the Eurocode 5. The model is valid for connections that transfer the load by shear planes such as connections with dowel type fasteners (nails, screws, dowels, bolts) and connectors like split-rings and toothed-plates etc.
