Preparation of Flame-retardant Cotton Fabric Using PPI dendrimer Nano-Structure

This research mainly deals with flame-retardancy property of grafted cotton fabric with two different generations of poly (propylene imine) (G2- and G5-PPI-NH2) dendrimers nano-structure using a cross linking agent (glutaric acid: GA) and sodium hypophosphite (SHP) through conventional pad-dry-cure method. Thermal degradation and flame resistance behavior of the grafted samples were studied by thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), mass loss and vertical flame test. Flammability and physical properties of the treated fabrics were also evaluated by number of standard tests, including burning rate, vertical char, whiteness index, breaking strength and wrinkle recovery angle of the specimens. The results revealed that the grafted cotton fabric with the PPI dendrimers shows an increase in its the decomposition temperature and residual mass compared with the untreated and treated cotton with cross linking agent (GA) without any PPI dendrimer.
