The paper reports on developments of DC submerged arc furnace technology for ferroalloys by CISRI (Central Iron & Steel Research Institute) in China. The resutls prove the advantages of the process: 6-8 percent energy savings, 40-50 percent electrode savings and other economic benefits. The report describes furnace features, designs and operations.
