摘要

This paper aims to develop models for estimating travel times on expressways with the use ofspeed detector data. Three models are investigated in this paper, the first is the classical BPRfunction and the second is Dailey’s method for estimation of link travel times. The third is anew model which makes use of point speed data at two successive time intervals to estimatethe average travel time of the traffic stream entering the study link during a time interval. Theeffect of time lag in speed measurement on the expressway with a long section of carriagewayis taken into account in the new model. These three methods for estimating the link traveltime are validated with data collected at the Tsing Ma Control Area (TMCA) in Hong Kong.A manual license plate number survey was conducted at the TMCA to collect the observedlink flow, link speeds and link travel times for model development and validation. Resultsshow that the new model can give a more accurate estimation of link travel time.
