A meat packaging and processing company had a history of corrosion problems in their smoke house facility. The rate of corrosion significantly increased shortly after an exhaust ventilator was replaced with a smaller unit and the liquid smoke solution was changed. This study determined that the new liquid smoke solution was the cause of the increased corrosion rate. Several strategies for reducing the corrosion rate are recommended and evaluated.
