For the past five years ADA Technologies has beenrndeveloping a portable fire extinguisher (PFE) for use inrnmicrogravity environments. This technology uses finernwater mist (FWM) to effectively and efficientlyrnextinguish fires representative of spacecraft hazards.rnRecently the FWM PFE was flown on a Zero-Grn(reduced gravity) aircraft to validate the performancernof the technology in a microgravity environment.rnTest results demonstrated that droplet size distributionsrngenerated in the reduced gravity environment were inrnthe same size range as data collected during normalrngravity (1-g) discharges from the prototype PFE. Datarntaken in an obscured test configuration showed that thernmist behind the obstacle was more dense in the low-grnenvironment when compared to 1-g discharges. Thernmist behind the obstacle tended to smaller droplet sizesrnin both the low-g and 1-g test conditions.
