摘要

The aim of usin gan extended surface is to enhance heat flow,which is achieved by increasing the convective area.To achieve this aim various approaches are available,to date largely concentrating on the design of solid-fin assemblies.In this work a steaky-stateone-dimensional model is considered of a split fin (a rectangular hole inserted in a fin) attached to a plane wall.The potential of attaching a split fin includes the simultaneous reduction in weight of the heat exchanger and increase of the fin surface area,which can increase the heat flow rate.The intention here is to investigate the conditions under which a split fin may provide a further enhancement of heat transfer over and above that obtained by use of a regular solid fin assembly.The analysis is made on varying fin hole geometry and fin material.Steady-state analytical expressions for temperature profiles are computed.To assess the improvement in performance of a split-fin assembly,the heat flow is calculated and compared with a solid-fin assembly.
