Creative Economy - Are We Going to Have Enough Creative Workers?

This paper explores very current issue: are we going to have sufficient staff for creative economy? High attention has been paid to the importance of creativity for economic development in recent years. Authors of this paper focused on research about demand of creative professions from high school students in the Czech Republic (1628 respondents) and university students (338 respondents from one university). Both surveys show that students have a high interest in these professions, but they are relatively unfocused (students had an opportunity to choose multiple professions in the survey; average student have chosen both creative and uncreative professions). The two-dimensional classification of occupations according to Roe was used for the research - Roe classified the creative professions in the eighth group named Arts and Entertainment. Selected professions outside this group require significant proportion of creativity, too - profession of Architect was chosen as a typical representative, that belongs to the group four Technology in Roe classification system. The hypothesis was tested in the profession Architect using statistical methods. The hypothesis says that the preference of the architect is not dependent on the inclusion of students into groups according to creativity. This hypothesis has been refuted. In the next part of research other professional preferences of creative students are examined. The findings show that high school and university students show very similar results. The ratio of creative students corresponds to about one-third in both samples.
