X80 steel has been proposed to be used as materials of spiral welded pipeline in thernLine 2 of the West-to-East Gas Pipeline Project in China. It is known the weldingrnjoint is the most hazardous site due to the attack of corrosive media. However, fewrnreports on the corrosion of welded X80 steel are found. In order to make optimalrnprogram of trenchless corrosion monitoring technique and anti-corrosive measure,rnweight loss, electrochemical test, metallographic observation and optical microscopicrnanalysis were adapted to investigate on the internal corrosion in NACE solutionrncontaining sulfide hydrogen and in groundwater containing carbon dioxide of weldedrnX80 steel sampled from the pipeline in the present paper. At temperature of 40 ℃,rnthe same corrosion resistance ranking in the two cases is base metal (BM) > weldrnmetal (WM) > heat-affected Zone (HAZ). The corrosion behaviors were discussed onrnthe basis of the metallurgical structures and the corrosion electrochemicalrnmechanisms.
