Study of the Factors Involved in the Strength of Dented Pipeline

The dent on the pipeline is one of the important factors that influence the pipelinernstrength. Many international pipeline design standards generally use the dent depth tornappraise whether the dented pipeline needs to be repaired. However, most of therndents that satisfied the standard still to be able to fail, so need to analyze morernparameters that influence the dent strength and find out the relationship betweenrnthem. Using the finite element method, the finite element models were establishedrnunder different circumstances, and the strength of the dented pipeline that wasrnapplied internal pressure was calculated. Non-linear regression analysis was utilizedrnto fit the results by Matlab, then the expressions of the relationships between therndented pipeline strength and the geometric parameters of dent, pipeline diameter,rnwall thickness and internal pressure were obtained under different circumstances.rnThis can be used as part of the basic research of the pipeline design standards, andrnimprove the accuracy of the dented pipeline assessment, as well as ensure that thernsecurity and reliability of the pipeline design and operation.
